ECO-Worthy 84wh portable power station review

As a prepper I am constantly on the watch for useful assets that I can acquire for general prepping needs. I recently wrote a review about the Radioddity GM-30 hand held, GMRS radio and that got me to thinking, how would I charge this if the power goes out?

While I do have a generator that could easily charge my radios and electronics, having something that doesn’t require fuel and could potentially last a lot longer would be more ideal. That’s where portable power stations come in.

Portable power stations are small, solar powered charging devices that can charge small, battery powered, electronic devices such as cell phones, radios, walkie talkies, portable lights, flash lights and more. I purchased the ECO-Worthy 84 wh portable power station on a recommendation from an acquaintance and I am overall very happy with the device.

Build Quality

I find that the overall build quality is very satisfactory, especially for a $79 device. With that said, you’re not going to want to drop this off the back of your bug out vehicle or drop it on the concrete floor. The charging station feels sturdy but it is made out of plastic and I can only assume that there is still a level of fragility despite how it feels.

Charging Times

Charging times are good to know and I was curious how long it would take to charge some of my devices. The ECO-Worthy portable power station charges my handheld Radioddity GM-30 GMRS radio in about an hour-ish and the power station battery itself takes about 3 hours to fully charge.

Pros and Cons

The pros.

The cons.

1. Limited power capacity: With an 84Wh capacity, this power station may not be suitable for powering larger appliances or devices with high energy requirements for extended periods.
2. Charging time: While solar panel charging offers a sustainable energy source, it may take time to fully charge the battery, especially in less sunny conditions, limiting immediate availability of power.
3. Limited warranty coverage: While the product is backed by a 2-year warranty and a 90-day full refund service, some users may prefer longer warranty coverage for added peace of mind.
4. USB Compatibility: While not too big of a deal, it should be noted that the power station offers standard USB charging options, the device does not come with a USB-C port, requiring an adapter for most modern USB chargeable devices.

Recommendation

I’ve charged my radios on several occasions and I am very please with the performance of this charging station. We been through situations where we were without power for over a week and this charging station would have come in very handy.

For $79 and everything that it does, I feel that this is a steal. Simply plug in the solar panel, plug in a device you want to charge, push the blue button and come back in an hour or so. I also like the fact that this works as an extended batter pack as well so if the station’s battery is charged, you can easily get a full charge off it without the solar panel.
